Dear Wonderful Room One Learners,

My first grade students wondered what a "bloke"
might be? It is not a word with which they are
familiar. We are enjoying your blog!

Mrs. Koch's C Day SAGE students

Hi everyone!

A bloke is a man like your Dad, Grandad, Poppa,

Uncle, big brother or cousin. It is a word that we use

in New Zealand and Australian people say it too. We

had a Blokes Day at school because we wanted to

have some special time with them at school. Lots of

Dads and Poppas and Uncles came. We did art and

played games. It was awesome fun!! You should try

it too.

Here are some photos of our Blokes with us in Room

one. We had fun and they had fun too!

We have enjoyed looking at your pictures and reading what you have said about your dads.

We noticed you don't wear school uniform in the pictures? Do you have special school clothes?

We do have a school uniform but it is optional - that means we can wear it if we want to. Some of us like to wear the school uniform and some of us wear our own clothes. Some of us wear a little bit of both! We like to wear things we can learn and play in. We don't want to worry about getting dirty and muddy because sometimes we get muddy on the field.

What do you do at playtime? Connor

Hi Connor. We play lots of different things at playtime. We play rugby, football, netball, on the monkey bars, on the our cool playgrounds and chasing games. If we want a quiet time we can go to the library or garden grove. We have lots of fun at playtimes.

What are you learning this term? Ciah

Hi Ciah. We have been learning about spring. We have been looking for signs showing us that Spring has arrived. We have seen beautiful pink blossoms, bright sunny yellow daffodils and baby animals like lambs and calves. Everyday we practise our reading and writing and we are getting vey clever.

Dear Wonderful Room 1,

We are the 2nd grade SAGE students in Mrs. Koch's class. We live in Kansas City, Missouri. We have been exploring your blog. We really loved your rocket ship. How did you make your rocket ship? Did you make it out of tissue paper?

First we drew out the shape of the rocket. Then we coloured it in in some places and dyed the rest of the rocket so it looks very colourful. Miss Bennett took our photos and we pretended that we were going through space pointing to stars and planets. Then we glued our photos onto the spaceship windows. Then we stuffed the rocket with newspaper so it is fat. We put orange and red and yellow flames on the end. We are happy that you like it.

We really liked your virtual hamster pet. What did you name your hamster? we do not have a virtual pet on our blog. We think we want to get one too. Maybe we will have it before you come to visit our blog.

We don't really have a name for our hamster. Isn't that silly? We love to feed him and give him water. We have 6 cute little goldfish in our classroom. We are really good at taking care of them.

What sports do boys and girls in New Zealand like to play?

We love to play lots of different games. Some of us play rugby, football, netball, cricket and we also like swimming. We have a HUGE swimming pool here at school which we will swim in every day in the summer.

Room One are excited to be involved in a Quadblogging project with 3 other classes in different countries. We will be finding out about each other and commenting on each others blogs. Wonderful Room One will be the first focus blog in the week of Sept 10th. It will be a great way for our students to become part of the Global Learning Community!

  Welcome Quadblogging Buddies!

These are photographs from around Gisborne. Gisborne is found on the East Coast of the North Island in New Zealand. We are the first city in the whole world to see the sun every day!

Quad-blogging is where 4 classes across the world share their news via a blog over 4 months. Each week is the turn of the focus blog (the schools are timetabled) so the other 3 classes take time to look and share their comments.
It is a fantastic way of sharing not only news and photos but giving the children and teachers a look at how children across the world learn.

Our Quadblogging buddies are found at these sites.
